Since 2005, Africa Social Development and Health Initiatives (ASDHI) has been involved in increasing access to, coverage and utilization of  formal education,  health, HIV and AIDS  prevention, care and treatment servicesin the fishing communities of Ssi-Bukunja sub-county, Buikwe district.

What We Do

Health Improvement

  • Increasing access to, coverage of, and utilization of quality comprehensive HIV and AIDS and TB prevention, care and treatment services
  • Strengthening networks and referral systems to improve access to, coverage of, and utilization of sexual and reproductive health services
  • Promoting safe water, hygiene and sanitation

Economic improvement

  • Education about the value of earning, keeping and growing one's income
  • Increasing access to, coverage of, and utilization of savings and credit opportunities
  • formation of economic support groups

Education improvement

  • Increasing access to, coverage of, and utilization of primary, secondary and tertiary education , particularly for orphans and vulnerabale children
  • Promoting functional Adult literacy
  • Promoting effective leadership for schools

Advocacy

  • Increasing awareness and understanding of human rights in the context of fishing communities
  • Empowering fisher-folk to advocate and demand for their rights
  • Advocate for sharing of benefits from fisheries resources
